Mar Mac Farms is built on generations of family, agriculture and a commitment to raising cattle that work.
The McRae family's Angus roots date back to the 1950s. In 1956, is when Mar Mac Farms was established, beginning a legacy that would continue through the generations.
Simmental cattle were introduced in 1976, followed by Red Angus in 1983. When Blair McRae married Lois Gordon, two families with deep roots in the livestock industry came together and continued building the Mar Mac program.
Over the decades, the focus has remained on developing strong, predictable cow families. Herd sires are selected for soundness, performance, fleshing ability, disposition and maternal strength, creating cattle designed to work for both purebred and commercial producers.
Mar Mac genetics have travelled across Canada and beyond, while the family has remained actively involved in 4-H, breed associations, livestock shows, industry events.
In 2026, the McRae family celebrates 50 years in the Simmental breed and more than four decades of Red Angus.
CATTLE BUILT TO WORK
Our goal is simple: produce predictable, functional cattle that work in the real world.
Our cows are expected to earn their place at the farm. They are managed practically, calve with minimal assistance and are expected to rebreed on a forage-based program. We continually evaluate the cow herd for soundness, performance and fertility, building around females that prove themselves year after year.
Herd sires are selected with the same philosophy—performance, fleshing ability, docility and structural soundness. Embryo transfer has also played an important role in our program, allowing us to build around proven females and strengthen the cow families behind our genetics.
For decades, Mar Mac genetics have gone to work in both purebred and commercial herds across Canada and beyond. As our program enters a new chapter, our commitment remains the same: raise cattle with purpose, backed by generations of selection.

Over the years, Mar Mac cattle have been shown and exhibited across Canada. Today, we continue to showcase our program at events including Manitoba Ag Days, Manitoba Ag Ex and Canadian Western Agribition.
Our Annual Bull Sale remains one of the highlights of every year. There is tremendous satisfaction in welcoming customers to the farm, helping them select their next herd sire and seeing Mar Mac genetics go on to contribute to their programs.
But perhaps the greatest part of this business has been the people. The friendships and fellowship developed through the cattle industry—across Canada and around the world—are something we will always value.
